Over 9000 educators have joined the The 30 Goals Challenge since January 2010. You have the opportunity to join our community of educators throughout the next few months of 2013 as we aim to accomplish 30 short-term goals related to education. These are short-term goals we reflect on and see how they help us aim towards long-term goals to make us better educators. We support each other through various social networks- Our Facebook group, Youtube, Twitter (#30GoalsEdu), Livebinders, and blogs.
Throughout 2013, I will share in this blog 2 to 3 suggested goals we hope to accomplish for the week. For the most part, these goals will be voted upon and recommended by our Facebook group community. Feel free to join and take part in the voting process. These goals are previous goals from our previous 3 cycles. Below is an embedded Livebinder featuring all these goals. If you choose, you can accomplish the same 2 to 3 goals a week with many members of our community. We hope that you will post your reflections in a blog but you can always leave a comment instead or an update on Our Facebook group, Youtube, and Twitter (#30GoalsEdu).
Cycle 4 Changes
Each year, we try to find better ways to accomplish the goals. This year we will focus on accomplishing 2 to 3 goals a week that are voted upon by our Facebook group community. This way we can focus more on our community and supporting each other through comments and community building activities. We hope that this will also give you time to read other participants’ thoughts, reflections, problems, and achievements.
We also adopted the theme, This is MY Moment. Each goal will focus on getting educators to believe their plans of action now will lead to positive change in their environments and inspire their learners to be the kind of people who try to make every moment of their lives meaningful and inspirational. Too many individuals are not seizing the moments in their lives to inspire or live their passions. The outcome is many are leading lives in poverty, committing crimes, doing drugs, etc. As educators, we have the ability to influence students and we start by being the example of individuals who make meaningful moments. I hope you will join us on our journey as we improve the lives of those around us including our own. It will be a journey you won’t forget!
We will also be conducting interviews through Google HangOuts with educators in our community who are accomplishing the goals. Lisa Dabbs, @TeachingwthSoul, is again the co-moderator of this project and will be leading the movement for our new added groups, educational leadership and new teachers. We will be suggesting goals for those in educational leadership positions (principals, district leaders, vice principals, administrators, teacher leaders, instructional technology leaders, educational consultants, etc.) and for teachers who are new to the field. Lisa Dabbs will be posting thoughts and reflections for educational leadership and new teachers on her blog, Teaching With Soul.
How Do You Participate?
You can choose to accomplish cycle 3′s the 2012 Goals, the 2011 goals, the 2010 goals, or a mixture of each. You can also choose to accomplish all the goals or a few of the goals. You can also choose to do this in any order you wish. You will find community members in all the social networks accomplishing different goals at their own pace.
After accomplishing the goal, post your reflection of what you learned, how it impacted your teaching, and how it impacted your students by:
- adding a comment on this blog (feel free to list any links related to your accomplishment of the goal)
- add a video blog as a response on The 30 Goals Youtube Playlist
- just record it off your webcam and tell us your thoughts! We’ll add these to the Facebook group, the Twitter feed, and the Livebinder!
- add updates to the 30 Goals Facebook group
- add a comment or link through Twitter using #30GoalsEdu as the hashtag!
