Interview: Tyson & Rocco Seburn & the Klingon Scandal

Tyson and Rocco

Tyson Seburn (@seburnt) is an incredibly multi-talented ELT star in our Personal/Passionate Learning Network! In Canada, he stays busy running his own website, CourseTree, managing an industry book distributor, conducting webinars, and teaching in the International Foundation Program at University of Toronto. Avid tweeter and blogger, his current area of interest is purposeful integration of online technology in the classroom. When Brad Patterson challenged us to interview our PLN, I quickly jumped at interviewing Tyson because we share a common bond, parents of doggy kiddos who have their own Facebook page. As the mommy of a social media puggy, Rosco, I understand the challenges Tyson must face as the proud daddy of a mini pincher socialite, Rocco. After our interview, Rosco decided to conduct his own interview with Rocco.

The 5 Standard Questions

For this challenge, each of us asks the following questions:

  • If your students were to label you with 3 adjectives, what might they be?
  • What would we find in your refrigerator right now?
  • If you weren’t a teacher, what might your profession be?
  • What do you find most difficult about the teaching profession?
  • What was the last book/movie you read/saw, and what have you seen/read way too many times?

Pt I Video Interview With Tyson

In this interview be warned that Tyson and Rocco have caused a scandal within the Star Trek community! You’ll have to watch to find out how!

Pt II Video: Rosco’s Interview With Rocco

  1. Thank you for editing out all the truly scandalous and saving my career. Appreciated. =)

Honestly, I enjoyed the chat and glad I didn’t completely embarrass myself, or my social media guru of a pup.

    You’re the best!

  2. These interviews for the PLN Challenge keep getting better and better!!!

Tyson, I have to say your Klingon sounded perfect to me… but I was shocked at what you chose to say!!! I’m glad Shelly is not Klingon-literate! ;-)

    1. I didn’t realise you knew Klingon, Ceci. I guess I forgot that it and Portuguese share linguistic roots. Of course, Shelly wouldn’t mind what I said, since she knows you…

  3. Very cool interview. I’m taking it in bites, and will wait for the scandalous dog session later today. What’ this about klingon, tho… u guys r silly :)

Good to see you virtually, Tyson. Hope we can meet up sometime soon! Italy is tempting, man…

And glad you liked Scream 4. I’m biased. My ex-girlfriend was a producer on it, and she got Wes Craven to try SnaPanda and he tweeted about it which got us a few big articles. Merci Wes !

  4. Ok… i couldn’t wait.

“let me translate that for Rocco…” ROFL

“now rocco, we heard u used to have a weight problem…”

“the vets told us we were feeding him way too much kibble…”

After watching this and seeing Rosco move around and want to go away, I think he was feeling a bit left out, Shelly… have you consoled him yet ?

    1. Wouldn’t you be biased against Scream 4? Still, very cool about Wes Craven tweeting your SnaPanda app!

I think Rosco was afraid of the goliath that Rocco is.

  5. Yea… that must’ve been it… poor Rosco feeling itty bitty and unprotected by his mommie.

It was a cool day when I saw that tweet and then when 4 more articles were pumped out because of it. The ex-girlfriend is still a great friend, and I root for everything she does. She even sends me scripts for feedback at times, and that’s FUN.

Thanks 2 you n Shelly again for keeping the ball rolling and making this fun!!!! NOW, What are we going to do for your blog’s birthday !

    1. I’m unsure about my blog’s birthday celebration. It’s only days away; we must come up with something quickly! Suggestions?

  6. Tyson ! Your mom stopped by that is so coooool ! :)

And she seems just as wise as my momma. Laugh lots indeed.

I don’t know what to do with the blog… wanna skype about it ?

    cheers, b

    1. Hi Naomi,
Do you have a favourite M.Atwood book? Like I said in the interview, Oryx and Crake & The Year of the Flood are my current favourites, with The Blind Assassin in a close third. She’s just so inspirational for being a blogger and tweeter.

  7. Ah, can’t name a favorite Margaret Atwood Title. I had a “margaret atwood year” some years back where I read all the ones owned by our local library. That was before I started recording what I’m reading on Visual Bookshelf so I have no reference to check which memories go with what title.
Never knew she blogged – went to check it out! Cool!

    1. Thanks, David. I think now you’ll have to reciprocate sometime so I can see you ‘live’. I’m sure you’re already recorded out there somewhere, aren’t you? =)
